October 2006 - Editorial

In the last issue of Pelita the publicity for the Methodist Prayer Convention 2007 was launched. Planning started many months before. This month we print the Tamil version of the poster.

There has not been such a gathering of Methodists in Malaysia in my memory. 3000 plus participants from all the Annual Conferences in East and West Malaysia will come to worship and pray together as one people. It will be a time to seek God together so that He may pour His Spirit out for the revival of His people and church.

The theme "One in Christ Through Prayer" reflects the overall theme adopted for this quadrennium by the General Conference. This convention promises to be a historic and momentous milestone in the Methodist Church in Malaysia. Let's plan to be there.

Contemporary Issues
This month we include something new. We publish a personal reflection on the issue of singles in the church.

The fact that many women live a single life is an obvious reality not only in society but also in the churches. This is probably more true in the urban centres and amongst those with a less traditional mindset.

Two single ladies from different backgrounds and ages were asked to respond. Their different responses highlight the on-going need to address the issues our singles face. Of course this is not meant to offer a comprehensive answer to the issue but to hear and be aware of this reality in our midst. We hope to feature other topics of interest and relevance occasionally in future issues of Pelita Methodist.
