May 2006 - Service of Thanksgiving and Dedication of the Jeannie Cheong Lean Eng Building, Methodist Boys? School, Penang

A dedication ceremony to mark the opening of the new Jeannie Cheong Lean Eng Building was held at the Methodist Boys’ School in Penang on Monday, 13 March 2006. The service began at 9 a.m. with the arrival of Bishop Dr. Hwa Yung from the Methodist Church in Malaysia. Other guests included the Building Committee Chairman, members of the Board of Governors headed by the Chairman, Dato’ Lim Cheng Chuan, the Methodist Education Secretary, Miss Yin Kam Yoke, the Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association, Mrs. Andrea Looi, Reverend Lawrence Francis and Pastor Jega Raj.

In his message, Bishop Dr. Hwa Yung stressed on the importance of acquiring wisdom other than knowledge and the continuing efforts to upgrade and improve conditions in Methodist schools throughout Malaysia dedicated to bring glory to God through education. The new Jeannie Cheong Lean Eng Building was made possible through the generous contributions of Mr. Ong Boon Kheng and his family and other donors and benefactors. In addition to a new lecture hall, there is a multimedia laboratory (the Makmal Multimedia Dato’ Kalimullah Hassan) and two large classrooms (the Bilik Darjah Dr. Lim Cheng Lim and the Bilik Darjah Arthur Su).

The Dedication Service ended with a lively dance and song presentation by members of the Christian Fellowship of MBS followed by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by Bishop Dr. Hwa Yung led by Mr. Khor Hong Yin, the Principal of the Methodist Boys’ School, Penang.
