MCKL's very own fusion band
Already in its third year running, the MCKL Annual Treasure Hunt 2006 was organized by METHODIST COLLEGE KUALA LUMPUR and tagged 'by the students, for the community'. The Hunt is a community project initiated by students of MCKL and this year it was held in collaboration with the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB). Several corporate sponsors mainly Maxis 'Hotlink', Ripcurl, Spalding, Dr. Martens, Piccolo Galleria and KL Monorail kindly made notable contributions in support of the event.

The core objective of the Treasure Hunt was to unlock hidden potential in the students and enable them to channel their energy towards a positive and worthy cause. The MCKL fusion band, combining the er hu, tabla and guitar, was a great hit. Another group put up a photography exhibition on the MAB and other welfare organizations, namely the SPCA, Wisma Harapan and Bangsaria, where the students serve throughout the year for their compulsory two-semester community service project.

The response to the treasure hunt this year was overwhelming. A total of 382 students from secondary schools and colleges around Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya, paired into 191 teams, tried to out-smart and out-pace each other in competing for prizes in three categories: the Under-16, Under-18 and Open categories.

Participants started their hunt in the neighboring MAB building. After deciphering the first set of clues which was in Braille, they traveled by the monorail and LRT services (courtesy of Rapid KL and KL Monorail) and criss-crossed major shopping malls and landmarks in K.L. in search for answers to clues and to retrieve tokens. They finally ended the hunt four hours later back at the College campus in Brickfields.

Participants were entertained by one of MCKL's notable alumni Juwita Suwito, Godfrey Ooi from MAB and MCKL's very own fusion band, singers and dancers. The participants unanimously agreed they thoroughly enjoyed the event and many said they plan to return next April for the 4th Annual Treasure Hunt. Winners of each category walked away with valuable prizes and everyone went home happy with a gift
