CAC Establishes the Methodist Seniors Home

On 1 April 2006 two hundred people attended the dedication service for the Methodist Seniors Home set up by the Chinese Methodist Church in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. It was a joyous occasion with songs of praise and worship sung heartily to our Lord and Master.

The service was led by Bishop Dr. Hwa Yung and the CAC President, Rev. Boh Che Suan. The Management Committee of the Seniors Home led the congregation in the dedication prayer.

Also present at the service were Rev. Ong Yu Hock, the Southern District Superintendent; Dato’ Peter Lai Yit See, State Assemblyman from Negeri Sembilan; and Mr. Chew Seh Yong, the Chairman of the Tiong Hua Association. This showed the close networking between the church and the wider community. Together with Bishop Hwa Yung and Rev. Boh Che Suan, they officiated the ribbon cutting ceremony.

A Thanksgiving Dinner was held after the dedication service which catered for 69 tables. The Seremban Methodist Women and Seniors Fellowship presented some wonderful items.

Rev. Chu Leng Chek, Senior Pastor of the Chinese Methodist Church, Seremban exhorted those present from Leviticus 19:32: "Show respect for old people and honour them. Reverently obey me; I am the LORD." He said the purpose for establishing the home was to promote respect and gratitude for the elderly. The home provides the three Gs - Goodness, Growth and God.

Dato’ Lai then shared, "With the set up of the Methodist Seniors Home, we see that Christianity encourages believers to learn from Jesus' teaching to respect the elderly and have a harmonious home, to be active in social work and to promote a high standard of morality and sociability in the country." He congratulated the church for successfully setting up the home to bring about a caring community.

Rev. Boh emphasized the need of the church to go out to the crowds. "We have to sow God's love where there is hatred; forgiveness where there is hurt; hope where there is hopelessness," he said. Bishop Hwa Yung pointed out that Jesus taught us to love our neighbour as ourselves. Neighbours include brothers and sisters in Christ and non-believers as well. We have to love our neighbours to our utmost i.e. as we would love ourselves.

He then closed the dinner with the benediction.
