Introducing the Ministry among UMS Students

The work among the students of University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) began in the middle of 2002 and was initiated by Rev. Hii Kong Hock. Members residing in Taman Kingfisher helped to transport students from UMS to Agape Methodist Church (around 9 KM from UMS) for the English worship service and youth activities. In the year 2003 Rev. Chua Ming Hua (Pastor of Agape Methodist Church) saw the potential and need to begin a worship service in Taman Kingfisher, which is only 4 kilometers away from UMS. Since then Sunday worship service and other activities are regularly held at a rented shoplot in Taman Kingfisher. Members living in this area have also warmly opened their homes for Cell Group meetings, evangelistic work and other small gatherings. In order to further enhance the ministry among the students, since September 2005 a house has been rented to minister to students' spiritual and social needs. Since the inception of the Taman Kingfisher English Preaching Center many students have been baptized here. Some of the ongoing church activities for 2006 include:

·     Prayer Meetings

·     Recreational Activities

·     Cell Group Meeting

·     Evangelistic Outreach                                  

·     Tracting

·     Counselling

 

Our request to all the Methodist Churches in West Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak is that we would like you to support our ministry by introducing to us students who are coming to study at UMS or other institutions of higher learning in Kota Kinabalu. We would like to serve them while they are here. Furthermore, we will be hosting a "Welcoming Night" program for the incoming new students at our Church. The purpose is to bring these students together as one big family and introduce them to the Church. Senior students can guide and help them in their respective courses, etc. The "Welcoming Night" program is as follows:-
