August 2006 - 2 Methodists Appointed To SUHAKAM

Datuk Dr. Denison JayasooriaTwo out of the four new Human Rights Commissioners appointed to the National Human Rights Commission this year are members of the Methodist Church. They are DATUK DR. DENISON JAYASOORIA who has also been appointed as SUHAKAM's Economic, Cultural and Social Rights Committee Chairman and DATO' DR. MICHAEL YEOH who is also appointed to be SUHAKAM's liaison with the Police and a member of SUHAKAM's Complaints and Investigations Panel.

Both Dato' Dr. Yeoh and Datuk Dr. Denison also served in the Royal Commission on Police.

Dato' Dr. Michael YeohDr. Yeoh is a member of Wesley Methodist Church Kuala Lumpur. He is the CEO and Director of the Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (ASLI). ASLI is an independent not-for-profit research institute that promotes thought leadership, Asian leadership, international business relations, economic cooperation and strategic thinking.

Dr. Denison is a member of Grace Methodist Church Sentul. He is the Executive Director of Yayasan Strategik Sosial (YSS). YSS is a research think-tank of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), and is also involved in social programmes among the Indian community.
